Interview Context: Description of physical venue or social interactions that might influence the content of the interview.
Household Description: Description of house construction, number of rooms, size, cleanliness or content. Include compositionâwho lives in house, who shares a room?
Parents: Characteristics and/or interactions with parents or guardians.
Friends: Description of nonsexual friendships that may influence participant's attitudes and behaviors. Also code those who act as the oppositeâadversaries.
Sexual Partner: Any partner, current or past, with whom the participant had sexual relations.
Conflict: Any description of verbal, physical, or sexual abuse; tension; and disagreements. Also code lack of conflict (e.g., when a participant says her partner never forces her to have sex, or never hits her).
Trust: Perceptions about whether a partner is faithful; signs of faithfulness or lack of it. Faithfulness of self or others. General thoughts on faithfulness and fidelity.
Risk Perception: Personal perception of risk for pregnancy or HIV, or more general attitudes and experiences that affect risk perception.
Meeting Places: Places where adolescents meet friends, sexual partners, or others.
Health Care Setting: Any description of health care services/settings, whether HIV-related or contraceptive or general health. Includes any general discussion about services provided, location, hours, access, and so forth.
HIV Testing Behavior: Own, partners', or general discussion on testing behavior or their lack of testing. Includes perceptions and attitudes toward testing behavior as well as description of getting tested.
